On July 2-5 for the fourth time already the region of Dubingiai will host an International Seniors' tennis tuornament DUBINGIAI OPEN 2009

The competition will be organized for men and women of senior age categories. All maches will be played on the professionally equipped courts, located at three places in the Dubingiai region: "Dubingiai" Leisure Center, Šarūnas Marčiulionis' summer retreat and "Apple Island" Holiday Camp.

The main organizing bodies of the tournament are International Agency "Sports Development Group", Lithuanian Tennis Union and Šarūnas Marčiulionis.

Dubingiai Leisure Center is located in the midst of a fabulous nature environment on the bank of Lake Asveja. The resort hotel provides its guests with a wide spectrum of entertainment, leisure, and sports services. There are two professional tennis courts, plus basketball and volleyball facilities. Saunas are available, as are cafes, restaurants, and banquet halls.

Apple Island is in Lake Grabuostas, close to Zalvariai village. The spacious recreation center offers modern tennis courts and miniature golf. Comfortable accommodations are available in cottage huts.  Sunbathing and swimming fans will enjoy a beautiful beach with a fireplace installed nearby. There are two saunas set up with cozy party rooms and an outdoor terrace.

The town of Dubingiai is located in the center of the entire Dubingiai Township. The first reference to the name of Dubingiai was made in 1334 in the early Crusade chronicles (lat. terra Dubingam). During the reign of the Lithuanian Duke, Vytautas the Great, Dubingiai became one of the most significant parts of the entire country. Under the rule of the renowned Radvilos, the town of Dubingiai was turned to the reformation center of Lithuania. Recent archeological research shows that Dukes Radvilos  (1577-1626) were buried at the famous Dubingiai Castle place.

The Dubingiai region is unique in its landscap, natural and cultural heritage. Dubingiai is settled on the banks of the longest lake in Lithuania -  Asveja.  The narrow Asveja, with several beautiful islands and picturesque branches, is surrounded by thick woodlands, which contain a variety of rare species of animals and plants. The 22 kilometer long lake is included in a nature preserve.

The Sarunas Marciulionis summer retreat is located on the banks of Asveja Lake. This fabulous facility will host a tournament closing feast and concert featuring the music of native Lithuanian artists.
